The Marshmallow ExperimentPart 1The marshmallow test was done to study delayed gratification. In the study, theresearchers put marshmallows or pretzel sticks before children, depending on what the childrenpreferred and put each of the children with a piece of marshmallow or pretzel stick in a room forsome time. The children were instructed to either eat the piece of marshmallow before them orwait to get two pieces after fifteen minutes. The subjects were then studied. In the study, themarshmallow was an extrinsic factor. The presence of the reward or the sight of it decreased theability of the subjects to delay gratification (Locke & Schattke, 2018).
