Thispaper aims to explore the different levels of leadership that exist in thearmy. The levels of leadership in the army are divided into three categories: strategic,direct, and organizational (Schoomaker, 2007). The determination of the levelsof leadership depends on various factors, including types of operationsconducted by the different units, unit size, degree of influence of the leader,headquarters level, and control span. Strategic leadership levels involve DA(Department of the Army) and civilian leaders in the military that controlvarious major command levels in connection with the leadership of thedepartment of defense. The role of the strategic leaders in the army is tocontrol the large organizations and influence various large groups ofindividuals. These leaders establish the structure and size of the force aswell as allocate the necessary resources to facilitate communication of thestrategic vision and preparation of appropriate commands to handle futureresponsibilities (Sengoz, 2020). Also, the strategic leaders consider theentire environment that relates to the functions of the army. They considervarious aspects such as , research and development,acquisitions of new systems, congressional hearings, civilian programs, andbudgetary constraints.
Organizationalleadership in the army commands various thousands of people. The level ofcommand is indirect, and this is problematic for them to find the desiredresults. In many cases, organizational leaders use subordinate officers toassist in managing the resources allocated to the organization (Stanton andJackson, 2021). They are accountable for establishing appropriate policies thatdetermine the organizational culture and working climate. The skills of theorganizational leaders are similar to those of direct leaders, but they have todeal with high uncertainty, unintentional consequences, and complexities. Also,they experience reduced interpersonal contact command of the brigades and thefile and rank soldiers. Their main role is to focus on the development missionand .
Thedirect leadership level in the army maintains face-face leadership. Thesubordinates can access their leaders anytime within the team, company,battalion, squad, or platoon levels ( Sengoz, 2020). The direct leader commandsa smaller group of people compared to strategic and organizational leadershiplevels. Such a leader has a direct influence on the subordinates. Sometimes,the direct leader can and subordinate officers to guidethe company. It is easy for the personnel to know what works and what does notwork and find ways of handling the challenges through direct leadership.
